Availability
One $2,500 scholarship
Available to students living in northern Arizona and studying to become or advance their career as a behavioral or mental health specialist. These careers include but are not limited to psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, marriage/family therapists, counselors, addiction specialists, and nurses focussed on mental health care.
Eligibility Guidelines
- Must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited health degree program with the intent to complete an undergraduate or graduate degree. Proof of enrollment is required.
- Must live in one of the five counties of northern Arizona — Apache, Coconino, Mohave, Navajo, or Yavapai.
- Scholarship funds are for the 2023-2024 academic year and should only be used for tuition, course books, or other academic expenses.
- Applicants may only receive up to one scholarship per year from Health First Foundation. All scholarships are awarded annually and are non-renewable.

Essay Topic
The Arizona Department of Health Services has designated all of northern Arizona as a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area (MHPSA). Specialty provider visits, especially for children, require residents to travel long distances, often outside the region. Please tell us about your desire to become a mental health specialist in northern Arizona. Share information about the career you are pursuing and how you will help those in need of support.
Essay Format
- A maximum of one typed page in length
- 1-inch margin on all sides
- 11 point font, double spaced lines
- Do not title or name your essay
- Do not provide your name or identifying information in the essay
- Save essay as a PDF to upload as part of your application

- Obtain proof of enrollment to upload with your application (valid documents include an unofficial transcript, registrar enrollment verification letter, or official acceptance letter).
