One $2,500 scholarship
Available to former U.S. military service members living in northern Arizona and studying to become a clinical, non-clinical, or allied health professional.
Clinical Health Professional
Clinical roles often have face-to-face contact with patients for the purpose of diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care. Some clinical professions are behind-the-scenes, such as laboratory professionals whose work supports diagnosis and treatment, Certified Nursing Assistants, and imaging technologists or technicians.
Non-Clinical Health Professional
Non-clinical roles are those which do not provide any type of medical treatment or testing. Non-clinical roles include medical billers and coders, transcriptionists, hospital executives, receptionists, and anyone who works behind the scenes at a hospital or medical center such as human resources, IT, biomedical technicians, administrative assistants, etc.
Allied Health Professional
An allied health professional is a healthcare professional other than a registered nurse, a physician assistant, or a doctor. Examples include dental hygienists, dietitians, nutrition specialists, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, phlebotomists, occupational therapists Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and medical imaging technologists.
Eligibility
- Available to former U.S. military service members. Must submit copy of official U.S. Military ID.
- Must live in Apache, Coconino, Mohave, Navajo, or Yavapai county.
- Must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited health degree program with the intent to complete an undergraduate or graduate degree.
- Scholarship funds are for the 2023-2024 academic year and should only be used for tuition, course books, or other academic expenses.
- Applicants may only receive up to one scholarship per year from Health First Foundation. All scholarships are awarded annually and are non-renewable.

Essay Topic
Please explain how advancing your education will contribute to one of these areas of need in northern Arizona:
- Preventing, reducing, or mitigating chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, respiratory conditions, dental disease, and cancer
- Improving behavioral and mental health
- Improving access to quality health care, including preventative care and screening services

Essay Format
- A maximum of one typed page in length
- 1-inch margin on all sides
- 11-point font, double spaced lines
- Do not title or name your essay
- Do not provide your name or identifying information in the essay
- Save essay as a PDF to upload as part of your application
